What is this inner emotional landscape, anyhow?

Here’s some examples:

– It’s common for us to put pressure on ourselves to perform & succeed, so we can either feel accomplished, receive praise, prove ourselves to ourselves or others, or feel we’re worthy in some way

– We can often criticize ourselves to try to do better so we can be accepted or avoid rejection by others.

– We often push ourselves past our limits in order to find a feeling of accomplishment, or avoid our own needs & limits in order for others to accept us. 

– We can sometimes ignore our own needs or limits in order to keep others around us happy or avoid conflict

– We might do things or stay in situations we don’t enjoy or don’t want to do out of a feeling of obligation or expectation, even if inside we have a sense it’s not aligned or best for us. We keep soldiering on, every day developing more frustration and even resentment.

It all comes down to survival: we need to feel safe, secure, loved & accepted.

In our developmental years, if we didn’t experience these core things for whatever reason, we developed ways of being, acting, and responding to try to affect our external environment so that we could get those core needs met and avoid rejection.

But those ways of being — while they got us through — over time, no longer serve us. And often, it’s these ways of thinking that cause all that constant internal stress.

Over time, that internal stress causes the nervous system to dysregulate — it’s not meant to have all that pressure constantly.

That’s when physical symptoms appear.

Some examples include: fatigue, pain, bloating, other digestive troubles, skin flares, inflammation, getting sick all the time, headaches, triggering of autoimmune, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, POTs, dysautonomia, and so much more.

Hannah's experience:

Before working with Michelle, I had been doing a lot of research on my own and experimenting with the Carnivore diet for a year. I had made quite a bit of progress doing this, but had reached a point where I was feeling very lost and confused. I still had gut issues and mystery symptoms and a LOT of unresolved stress. So what's my story?

My name is Michelle Dowker, I’m a Naturopathic Doctor turned Empowerment Coach & Transformation Facilitator.

My formal education background includes an Honours Bachelor of Science in biomedical science, a Master of Science in human biology & nutritional science, both from the University of Guelph, Canada, and a four-year Naturopathic Doctor diploma, from the accredited Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Canada.

I’ve also accumulated a wide variety of additional experience from informal education, from teachers such as herbalists, acupuncturists, reiki practitioners, Shaman healers and Buddhist nuns. I’ve also received many certifications including life coach and reiki practitioner.

I understand how frustrating it is to deal with unrelenting symptoms like fatigue, bloating, and pain. I myself have endometriosis and an autoimmune condition. 

After a series of major stressors in my life, my conditions had flared and I had declined so badly I was bed-bound for months with pain, exhaustion, bloating, dizziness, nausea, and so much more. My life was slipping away. I’d tried everything I could think of given my knowledge as a Naturopathic Doctor, but nothing was working.

I stumbled across the Carnivore diet, which got me back on my feet again within days. It felt like a miracle. This experience taught me a lot about many concepts that aren’t yet taught in mainstream nutrition. 

However, even after months of following the diet religiously, I wasn’t feeling 100%. And I was so reactive to foods, reintroduction was impossible.

Natural supplements to heal my gut and immune system were somewhat helpful, but I was still not feeling as good as I knew I could. I had to be honest with myself and explore the true root of the trigger that made me so sick in the first place: Stress and unresolved emotions.

While mindset work, emotional healing, and stress management has been a part of my practice with patients and clients for well over a decade, it’s hard to see your own blindspots. It’s like trying to see the forest when you’re amongst the trees.

So I hired a mindset coach to help me uncover & heal some important things I was having trouble seeing on my own, and improve my own perspective and stress responses, and finally heal unresolved trauma I hadn’t fully addressed.

With this work that I did and continue to do (because it’s a lifelong journey), I’ve been able to reintroduce foods again. I don’t need to be chained to a 100% Carnivore diet for the rest of my life, which, at one point, I thought I was destined to have to do. And I see the same for my clients time and time again.

More importantly, I feel calm and in control of myself and my life, health, and my body — more so than I have in my whole life. And my clients I work with tell me the exact same thing once we start this process together.

Out of the dietary changes I made, the supplements I took, and the emotional healing I did, it was the latter that was the most important. 

Diet & natural supplements were supportive and helped me better manage the symptoms I was experiencing, but the root of the matter was the stress, emotions and past trauma, and I didn’t fully resolve the physical issues until I did the work to transform this key piece of the puzzle, particularly, my relationship with myself. 

My clients have similar realizations once they transform doing the work with me: that diet isn’t the problem — the true root of their physical symptoms comes down to stress and emotions, which is why diet and supplements only helped them up to a certain extent.

This is a piece of the puzzle most practitioners ignore, especially in the medical system. Often, they just don’t have the time. Or it’s not part of their wheelhouse of expertise. We all have different talents.

Some practitioners may suggest trying yoga or taking time for things like bubble baths. While these are, no doubt, relaxing activities, they too, are just managing symptoms.

When you dive deep and transform how you think about and respond to challenges in life, heal your relationship with yourself, and train your nervous system to function more flexibly, that’s when things change. Stress doesn’t build up and affect your body in the same way. 

When you start to understand that you have control over your body and mind, and more importantly, how to gain that control, it changes you on every level. When you start to feel in control, you become Empowered. When you’re Empowered, your life changes in every way.

This is the work I do with my clients. They tell me all the time how much more in control they feel, not only of their body and their symptoms, but their whole lives. Not only is their energy, sleep, pain and digestion improved, but they feel like they’ve finally moved out of survival mode — they tell me they feel like they’re thriving now, with a sense of purpose and joy. They truly flourish.

As an empath and highly sensitive person (HSP), I’m able to pick up on nuances most people don’t see. I can detect patterns, emotions, and messages hidden underneath the surface through listening to how you speak, what you say, and the way you say it. 

And as most of my clients tend also to be empaths, I teach them how to harness this skill as a gift — as opposed to feeling it’s a burden, which I used to feel myself.

Combined with my academic research and clinical experiences, this blend of talents helps me connect dots most practitioners don’t consider. 

Trying to see it for yourself without outside help is very difficult to do — again, like trying to see the forest when you’re lost amongst the trees. Even I have my own coaches and mentors to help me continue to heal and grow.

The package includes an initial deep-dive assessment, then personal empowerment & transformation sessions every two to four weeks, totalling nine sessions.

It is suggested, however, to follow the suggested timeline of the program as closely as possible. When too much time lapses, we need to play catch-up which can slow progress.

You need to be willing to walk with me along this path and participate in order to achieve results. It’s a gentle, guided, and personalized journey, so have no fear. You just have to show up for it.

This package isn’t for everyone. It’s for the woman who’s willing to dive deeper than diet and supplements — to explore, connect to, and heal the emotional roots of physical symptoms. This takes a level of openness and willingness that not everyone is ready for or interested in. This is not a magic pill or a quick fix. But for the person who’s ready, it provides life-changing empowering transformation in innumerable ways — not only for health & symptoms, but every aspect of life.

As well, I only work with people who’ve already tried a minimum level of change to their diet. The reason why is because there’s so much improvement *some* people experience with dietary adjustment, that I want to ensure you’ve already tried that path. 

While we do discuss dietary tweaking, personalization and troubleshooting in the program, with lots of recipes and menu planning ideas, there’s not enough time allotted to teach the bare basics. There’s an expectation that you already have some experience with making changes, and have tried at minimum gluten- and dairy-free. Preferably you have experience with paleo, AIP, low-carb or Keto, and I have a special focus on helping women who’ve gone carnivore, just like I had, especially if they’re interested in trying food reintroduction once they start healing. I have a systematic approach to do just that.

This program is deep and transformative, and with each session I provide with my clients, I am there 100% with my focus and energy. For this reason, I’m only able to hold space for a limited number of clients at a time, and only take on a small number of clients each month.

Therefore, I want to make sure the people I take on are a fit, and I want to make sure that you also feel like this program is a fit for you. It works both ways. The best way to determine this is through an application process.

Absolutely! My thoughts are the more supported you are, the better.

My approach, while it involves supporting you to address and heal the emotional and stress-related roots of physical symptoms, it’s not the same as therapy. There’s room for both.

In fact, many of my clients also see a therapist, and they find our approaches are not only very different, but find the results they get from therapy improve with the work they do with me.

The purpose of the intensive is for you to learn how to follow your own inner guidance system, so that you’ll know what to do for yourself going forward. However, it’s always helpful to have check-ins to keep you on track, gain new perspectives, maintain accountability, and continue to grow and evolve along your journey.

For that reason, continuity options are available for those who’ve gone through the 6 month intensive. Details will be provided to you at the end of the intensive if you’re interested.

You’ll be expected to attend your sessions and arrive on time, and be open and willing to share with Michelle — the changes you’re experiencing between sessions, as well as a willingness during sessions to talk about stress and life experiences, and an openness to look at things in a different way.

Michelle will suggest activities, exercises, and tools for you to try and practice between sessions. While you are never forced to do anything you don’t want to, the more you implement the suggestions given, the more likely you’ll be to experience results. 

What’s expected of you is to take responsibility to take back control of your life and your health. Michelle will guide you towards knowing exactly how to do that. You need to be willing to walk with her along this path and participate in order to achieve results. It’s a gentle, guided, and personalized journey, so have no fear. You just have to show up for it.

Why is this package by application only?

This package isn’t for everyone. It’s for the woman who’s willing to dive deeper than diet and supplements — to explore, connect to, and heal the emotional roots of physical symptoms. This takes a level of openness and willingness that not everyone is ready for or looking for. This is not a magic pill or a quick fix. But for the person who’s ready, it provides life-changing transformation in innumerable ways.

As well, I only work with people who’ve already tried a minimum level of change to their diet. The reason why is because there’s so much improvement *some* people experience with dietary adjustment, that I want to ensure you’ve already tried that path. 

While we do discuss dietary tweaking, personalization and troubleshooting in the program, with lots of recipes and menu planning ideas, there’s not enough time allotted to teach the bare basics. There’s an expectation that you already have some experience with making changes, and have tried at minimum gluten- and dairy-free. Preferably you have experience with paleo, AIP, low-carb or Keto, and I have a special focus on helping women who’ve gone carnivore, just like I had. 

This program is deep and transformative, and with each session I provide with my clients, I am there 100% with my focus and energy. For this reason, I’m only able to hold space for a limited number of clients at a time, and only take on a small number of clients each month.

Therefore, I want to make sure the people I take on are a fit, and I want to make sure that you also feel like this program is a fit for you. It works both ways. The best way to determine this is through an application process.

How this program is different

This is a unique approach that addresses often ignored but extremely important root causes of mysterious and relentless fatigue, bloating, pain, stubborn weight, autoimmune conditions, and endometriosis.

The stress response, emotions, and nervous system dysregulation can affect body physiology in innumerable ways, which can worsen symptoms and even trigger them in the first place. This is what’s called the root cause.

Looking at and addressing these important root causes, and even deeper, the roots of why the nervous system becomes dysregulated in the first place, is important to attain true control over symptoms of these conditions, rather than just suppressing them.

It’s more effective long-term to actually go in and find what the problem is and correct it. The check-engine light will stop flashing, and the car will run much better, for a lot longer.

For this and many other reasons, Empowered You is different than the majority of programs out there for women who are looking for help to manage health conditions like autoimmune or endometriosis.

Getting to the root causes by addressing the emotional roots of physical, you’ll achieve a level of transformation that you won’t experience from a five-minute appointment in the medical system or what diet & supplements alone can deliver.

And if you’ve seen naturopathic or functional medicine practitioners, they will often address the physical root causes, but often ignore the emotional roots, and more often than not, don’t take the time to really dive in to create true emotional healing and mindset transformation.

If you’ve seen talk therapists and didn’t find them particularly helpful, know there’s so much more to consider when it comes to emotional healing.
